Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Ohio

compulsive gambling forces personal bankruptcy

Due to compulsive gambling losses forcing me to run my credit cards to their limits while also obtaining a $15,000 unsecured loan, I now find myself over $40,000 in debt. Even if I could meet my monthly minimum payments, the interest alone would take me more than a lifetime to payoff. Will the court discharge credit debt caused by irresponsible gambling. Will I be able to keep my car which is woth about $9000 (only owe $2500 on it)? Will the unsecured loan be discharged? I am currently up to date on that and my car. I feel that i have destroyed my life at a young age and would do anything for a sceond chance. Please advise. Thank you.

Compulsive gambling debts

The first step is to contact Gamblers Anonymous and start going to meetings; you may also want to see your County Mental Health Office and get some counselling through that office, if it is available.

Generally, credit card debts for anythingother than necessities (food, clothing, gasoline, etc.) are not dischargeable untilit has been at least six (6) months sincethe cards were used last. Some judges mayrequire an even longer period of nonuse. When and if you do file bankruptcy, the un-secured loan will be discharged because itmakes no difference to the lender what you dowith the proceeds of an unsecured loan.
