Legal Question in Business Law in Ohio

Business Liability

I own a pay parking lot and let a student park his car for free on my lot. One day he comes to get his car and finds it won't start. He tells me a tow truck will be there to pick it up.Later a man dressed in white overalls with the words ''Auto Repair'' shows up and I give him the keys and he tows the vehicle. It was learned that this was not the repairman and that the car was stolen. Am I liable for for the cost of the vehicle and the contents? I am doing this research for a Negotiation class. Can you please help me?

Re: Business Liability

You should expect to be sued. When you take the keys you have a responsibility to take care of the car until it's delivered. However, it may have been a reasonable thing to deliver the keys to the repair man. That would be the jury's call. Get a lawyer. He should be able to negotiate a settlement.
