Legal Question in Business Law in Ohio

defamation of character ???

My husband and I own a computer/video game business. We started in feb. of 06. When we started it, my husband best friend came to help out. We was a sub contractor, and was paid based on what he did ( fixed video game system ). We recently fired him, due to the fact he was stealing products, giving the away, and giving people discounts that was not approved by us. He is now going aroung town telling people that we owe him $5000 for the work he did. He is saying that we scammed him out of money, we are a bad company, and telling people not to come to our store and buy things. Is this a case of defamation or would we be better to go for a embessalment suit?

Re: defamation of character ???

If you believe that you have grounds, you should filr against him for conversion, which is the civil form of embezzlement. It is easier to prove damages for conversion than for slander.
