Legal Question in Business Law in Ohio
Landlord Lockout
I have a problem with a landlord. I was in the process of closing my business. I fell behind in the monthly rent about 6 weeks. One day he showed up gave me a letter stating that if the amount wasn't paid in full (no timeline given) he would begin legal action to protect the broken lease and back rent due. 2 days later I come to retreive, gather and pack more items (one which was my purse that had my asthma medication in it) and the locks were changed. I called the landlord and he told me he didn't have the key and I had to deal with the real estate agent. I have called the agent numerous times and have gotten no response. I was trying to sell off equipment to pay back taxes and bills. Is there anything I can do at this point?

Re: Landlord Lockout
You are unclear as to whether you were locked out of your business or your residence. I am presuming it was your business. Your lease would control rights upon default in a business lease, and you need to have it reviewed. If there is no written lease, the landlord acted improperly. If it is your residence, a landlord cannot change locks without filing an eviction and obtaining a court order.
