Legal Question in Business Law in Ohio

liens

I have a lien from 01 filed against me. It was supposed to be released years ago. How long is a lien good for? It's screwing up my credit.

Re: liens

The lien has expired after 5 years, and has no effect on your ability to sell your property.

Re: liens

There are many kinds of liens. There are judgment liens, UCC liens, mechanic liens, mortgage liens, tax liens, etc. Some expire and some continue until released. Some can be renewed, as well.

Regardless of when it is supposed to expire or be removed, as long as it exists, it may affect your credit.

If it was supposed to be removed but wasn't, you should work on fixing that issue first, then repairing the effect on your credit.

You should consider working with an attorney now. The attorney might be able to correct the lien itself, then help correct your credit. In addition, you might have a claim if a party didn't remove a lien when they were supposed to, and has now affected your credit. Any claim might be limited by time or statute of limitations and should be considered before it passes.
