Legal Question in Business Law in Ohio

Non Payment on Verbal Contract

I had a verbal contract with a company. The verbal agreement was that I would be paid $250 upon BPO being ordered. The company has failed to pay me for several completed BPOs. The balance is $600 and I have quit working for them due to nonpayment. Can I collect? How do I get started.

Re: Non Payment on Verbal Contract

Dear Unpaid Employee: Your best bet is to go to your local municipal (city) court, and file a small claim with the Small Claims Court against your former employer. Be certain to name him or her personally, if that's the way you were hired and supervised.

The Clerks of Court are usually very helpful and will assist you with the forms and basic procedures. Upon payment of the filing fee, you have a lawsuit! Prepare for your Court date and hearing, to present your case clearly, succinctly, and briefly. If you have any witnesses, bring them with you. Bring copies of original documentation, writings, emails, etc. to prove your case.

Good luck!

Sincerely, J. Norman Stark
