Legal Question in Business Law in Ohio
Support for purchased product
About 18 months ago, I purchased a yard waste chipper/shredder (~$300.00). A two months ago, one of the shredder blades broke. This is designed to be a wear item and is replaceable. I placed an order with the manufacturer for a replacement part. The order was accepted but never shipped. I finally called them and they explained they were no longer providing any support for this product (including spare parts) due to a disagreement with their supplier. I have checked with local machine shops to replicate the part, but have been told it is a tooled part and would be very expensive. I cannot find another source for the part through the internet. Is there any legal requirement for a company to provide support for a period of time after it sells a product (more than 18 months)? I live in California. I purchased the product from an Ohio company.
The company now sells an almost identical product but tells me the blade parts are not interchangable with the product I purchased.

Re: Support for purchased product
You should have gotten a written warranty with your purchase. That would be the place to start. If not, thre is a possibility that implied warranties may apply, but probably not after 16 months.
