Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio
My 23 year old daughter had a warrant for drugs. The police came to my home asking if she was there. While I spoke to 2 of them on my front porch and explained that she was not there and I could tell them where she was, another officer went around my house and entered my garage through an open door and looked around with his flash lite. My question is if it lawful to do so without being invited to or a search warrant.

The answer is: it depends.
A law enforcement officer who is lawfully on someone's property with an arrest warrant may observe things in plain view, may take measures designed to protect the officer's safety and may examine the area to determine from where an individual might flee.
