Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio

BMX bikes on public skateboard parks

Here in Westerville we have a public unfenced skateboard park that skateboards & in-line skates are aloud but BMX bikes are not, They claim BMX bikes do more damage yet they have nothing to support this & they also claim that the bikes are more dangerous & again have nothing to support this. I have read up on a lot on websites that this could be a civil rights issue as it is a public park (not a private one) & they are discriminating against the people on BMX bikes.

Some other parks in the USA & lots of parks in Canada, England & other European countries have let bikes on these parks for as much as 20+ years & have no problems.

Do you have any advice about if this is a civil rights issues or anything like that?

Thanks very much

There must be a process under their laws that permits you to change their rule. You can ask for a town meeting or bring the issue up at a meeting of the council or whomever runs the town. If you present your information there, they can change the rule. Or you may have to amend the law yourself by petition. This can be done.
