Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio
civil recovery demand for payment letter
A friend was arrested for shoplifting merchandise worth about $75 from kMart in Oh. Hasn't gone to court, yet. He rec'd a letter (regular mail) from a FL lawfirm stating they represent Kmart in its civil claim against him. Says to send $200 to them within 30 days to settle. I googled them and found a lot of others that have gotten this letter, even if they weren't arrested. There were a lot that kept getting the letters & calls if after they have paid. A few have said this has been going on for years and the amount keeps increasing. It sounds like this won't go away no matter what he does. What do you suggest he does?
