Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio

county library books lost/misplaced due to:

I stayed in a mens shelter on the day of my release to a hospital site for the homeless. I was given prmission by the director of said mens shelter for 30 days to pick up my property which included numerous library books - My social worker and I attempted to pick up this property - we were told that it no longer existed..that surprised + disappointed me- Was not the 30 day window by the director of the mens' shelter a 'verbal contract' + moreso than anything'; is it not binding? I am a disabled individual with meeger income.. my thoughts are to take them to court if after my written request for the shelter to compensate me for the cost of the library books;which exceeds $300.00 Please Assist!! Helpless in this matter Thank You (I just want to pay the library for the cost of the 'lost books')

If the shelter lost the books they are resposible. You might try small claims court,as it is very inexpensive and does not require a lawyer.

Sounds like a good case for mediation or intervention. If you take a letter from the shelter to the library stating what you wrote here, they might release you from the debt.
