Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio
deed transfer
Is it legal to transfer a deed to my wife if I have been cited to civil court?
I have a $4,000 debt to Kent State University and have been cited in a suit with the State of Ohio as the defendant. I have been advised to remove my name from our current deed.
I am slated to appear for pretrial in July and have offered small payments against this 20-year-old debt, which have apparently been refused.
I do not want the property to be forced into sale, so can I legally transfer this jointly owned property to my wife having already been cited ?

Re: deed transfer
I would consult an attorney who does deed transfers. It could possibly be considered a fraudulent transfer, if it is being done soley to avoid paying a judgment.
