Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio
early dissmissal from job
I gave my former employer a 3 week notice that I was resigning. My last day was to be the next scheduled work day after Thanksgiving. Company rules state you must work the scheduled work day before and after to get your holiday pay, which , in the case would be for two days pay. On the last sceduled day before the holiday they told me I had to quit and thus escorted me out a half hour before my shift ended. Now i am out a total of two days for the holidy vacation and one for the day after. Do I have any rights, and can I get the money I missed out on?

Talk about penny pinching! The company had the right to fire you at any time, bt what they didn't have the right to do was fire you as a pretext for failing to give you wages due. You probaboly don't have a case, because, again, they had the right to fire you at any time and walk you out the door. You just gave them plenty of warning, allowing them to get their game plan together.
Usually, when you leave a job, you should negotiate a severance package immediately instead of trying to hang on until the last minute and squeeze a few extra paydays out, because companies have all sorts of ways of screwing you.
But, consult a local lawyer: they may well have violated state or federal labor law, so it won't hurt ot check it out. The problem is, you're only talking a few days pay...also you can contact your state employment offices to get a copy of the rules for firing and rights to earned benefits.
