Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio

Is this fair

I am taking my ex wife to court PRO SE and arrived at court early. I asked the baliff if I also was allowed in the judges chambers, he said I was my own attorney (yes). I sit out in the hall waiting to be called and the baliff comes out and tells me it has been continued. I asked why and he said hold on. An attorney walkes out and introduces himself as my ex wifes attorney and said they had asked for more time than the judge was able to give. I am upset that I was not informed the hearing was in progress or the other attorneys were present. Did I have the right to be present and to be notified that the proceedings were in progress? This seems a voilation of rights, either civil or constitutional.

Yes you did have a right to be there...the communication of the attorney with the court outside your presence is called ex parte communication and it is inappropriate.

Let this be a lesson for you and get yourself an attorney.
