Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio

Keeping my Dog

I am trying to find out if I can fight to keep my 2 1/2 year old Pug that was supposely bought for me, but when my ex gets mad at me she throws it up that she paid for her and she wants her back. I have provided for my Pug for the last 2 1/2 years and for the last 2 years since my ex and I broke up I have taken care of my Pug. I provide all her food, shelter and pay all her vet bills and pay for her allergy meds.(she has to take them twice daily.)The only time I have not had my Pug is when my ex would come and take her from me and tell me she paid for her so she can take her anytime she wants to. My ex usually calls me a few days later or so and says I need you to come get the dog cause she is pottying in the house or that she will be going to a party this weekend and her parents do not want to tend to the dog. The last party she took my Pug to my ex passed out and my Pug was left outside until my ex came to. Due to my ex telling me that when she called and told me to come get my Pug I took her and had her fixed, Micro-chipped and registered with my county and got her Dog license.

Do I have any gounds to stand on to fight for my Pug? If so how do I do that? What type of lawyer do I need?

Re: Keeping my Dog

The kind of lawyer who is happy to take your money over nonsense.

Look, whatever problem you and your Ex have, if you want to keep the relationship alive and disfunctional, keep fighting over a dog.

If you want the dog, take the dog next time it's offered and don't give it back. If you pay all the expenses, and you were given teh dog as a gift, it's yours. If she really wants to fight about it, let her sue you and explain to the judge how a gift becomes hers. If you give it back to her again, boo on you.

If you let your Ex behave like this, then you're participating in a play from which another lawyer would be happy to take profit.
