Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio
Renting
I have rented from a man for a couple of years now. For the past 8 months the bathroom shower was leaking into the kitchen. It caused mold and everything. They finally fixed the leak but not the kitchen. I warned that I would move if it wasn't fixed. It wasn't so I moved now thay have filed suit against me because I left with no notice. They want 550.00 in rent and 550. in damages ie ''the ceiling.'' Is there anything that I can do.

Re: Renting
You can claim constructive eviction, but there is a way to do this, including covering yourself by taking photos, putting rent in escrow, etc. By moving without advice, you may have lost the chance to gather evidence to support your defense. You next stop should be your local legal aid office, to see what they mght suggest to help. If your landlord had a record of problems, you might be able to use that in your defense.
