Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio
To swear on the Bible or not?
I'm curious, if for religious beliefs, when I am testifying in court, I refuse to place my hand on the Bible, can I be held in contempt or charged in any manner?

Re: To swear on the Bible or not?
No. The modern day oath is "you swear or affirm that the testimony you will give will be the truth." You are not required to have anything to do with anyone's bible or any other religious symbolism.

They don't use a bible. You are simply asked to swear or affirm, as the courts have finally realized that many people won't "swear."
