Legal Question in Technology Law in Ohio

I go to a local recycling center in Milford, Ohio & they take down my license plate and scan my drivers license. Is that legal? What laws do they have to abide when it comes to the storage of that info? I asked the clerk and she had no idea how long they keep it or how it is stored.

Is it legal? Yes. In response to a rash of thefts of scrap metal in which the thieves were selling the scrap to recycle-ers, the Ohio legislature passed a bill requiring these businesses to take down a driver's license # or license plate #. Read more here: http://www.dlrecycling.com/sb193.html
