Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Ohio

Collecting a Debt

A cousin borrowed $6000.00 from my parents. He signed a dated note stating that he would repay the debt within one year. Two years have past. He has failed to make any attempt at re-payment as requested. Best course of action? District Justice in Ohio? Any chance for collection? Retain an attorney - will that result in spending more than the debt owed? Thank you.

Many attorneys (myself included) will collect on a contingency basis meaning that there is no fee unless money is collected. There may be court costs in an amount under $200.

Re: Collecting a Debt

Depends on thr terms of the note. He should be sued in the county where he lives. An attorney must be retained as the amount is over the small claims limit.
