Collecting a debt via small claims court

Can we take a customer to small claims court in Ohio (customers location) to collect a debt and can we submit multiple claims for each invoice to stay under the $3000 limit? The customers total due outstanding is $23,000 consisting of many invoices below the $3000 amount.

You can do that but there are a few problems. First you pay court costs for each case. You can file one case in the Court of common pleas for less. Second, in small claims you will have to make an appearance while in the Court of common pleas you may not need to appear. Third, once you get a judgment in common pleas you can transfer it to municipal court for collection as the cost of collection are less in municipal court.

The bottom line is that you may want to get counsel and sue in common pleas court.
