Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Ohio
Collections reported despite never having received bill
I received a collections letter for a hospital bill last fall for services one of my
children received at an Ohio hospital a year earlier. I immediately contacted
the hospital and was told they could do nothing for me because it was in
collection, and they had sent six letters to me, but with an incomplete and
incorrect address. They also informed me there were four other bills in
collections, beginning with one in early 2003. The hospital at that time
confirmed they had my cell-phone number at which they could have
contacted me to correct the address but did not make any attempt to do so.
They also sent nothing to my children's mother.
I made several attempts to contact the collection agency to make payment
arrangements without success. Last month, they called back and
arrangements were made, but they reported all five bills to TransUnion
anyway because the bills were so old.
My question: Whether we owe is not in dispute and we will pay the full
amount. However, I find it unfair to have had the collections reported
considering their failures to properly inform me of the debt. Is there any
recourse for having the collections completely removed from my credit
report, not just marked paid?

Re: Collections reported despite never having received bill
Only the hospital can remove it from your credit report. You can contact the credit bureaus and add an explanation as to why that account was shown as delinquent.
