In Ohio, the general rule is that you are only responsible for the debts that you agree to. While being married to someone may cause a court to divide up the assets and liabilities of a marriage if there is a divorce, your wife's and stepson's creditors cannot come after you for their unpaid debts. However, if you own a joint asset with either the debtor or the co-signer, the creditor may be able to take a half interest in that asset to the extent of the unpaid debt.
