when punitive damages are awarded in a case and no action is taken to recover the awarded money is there a time frame when you can no longer attempt to collect?

Generally, all judgments in Ohio can become stale or dormant because of the passage of time, usually several years. There is a statutory process for reviving a dormant judgment. A punitive damages judgment would be treated the same way. You may wish to speak with the attorney who helped you win the judgment to see if they can assist you in reopening the matter.
