Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Ohio

Use of rolling credit accounts to reach sales goals

I was just let go from my employer due to 'sales not being what they should be.' I believe it was because I was a potential whistleblower.

The employer that let me go was a retail type establishment that had its own customer 'credit card' from a prominent bank. Not a visa or mc, but a typical retail rolling credit account. There were some sales people at the store that would charge customer accounts without authorization from the customer. This would be done to hit sales goals. A month or so later, said customer gets a bill from the bank and would then call the store and ask why they received a bill. Knowing that they didn't get any product, the salesperson that charged the account would simply credit the account. The amounts could exceed $3000 on many occasion.

I stated that I didn't like the practice, figured it would be illegal since the charges were made over the internet. And suddenly I was fired.

Are the fake charges a criminal offense?

I live in Ohio. Thanks.

Re: Use of rolling credit accounts to reach sales goals

It does sound as if the company has committed numerous crimes by charging the customers for items they did not receive. I wonder if there were customers who were charged but never called?

Additionally, it sounds as if you have a claim for wrongful termination.

I would love to help in anyway that I can. I am currently working on a wrongful termination case for another client.

Feel free to call me for a free consultation.
