Asked to submit to a polygraph

Recently I have been asked to take a polygraph test by police in attempts to try to link myself to a missing computer investigation. I have not been charged, but have been told they do suspect me but would like to rule me out by taking the test. It is to my understanding that there have been no eye witnesses of this crime by anyone. Only a statement taken, police report filed and questions asked. Should I go and take this test?

A polygraph tests measures stress, it does not measure whether someone is truthful or untruthful. Often the police use a polygraph test as a way to rule out innocent suspects, but normally that is done based on the "pre-test interview." I would not advise any of my clients to submit to a polygraph unless they were represented by competent counsel who reviewed the investigation and decided that the polygraph was the way to go. Also, there are certain stipulations that should be in place before a polygraph is given.

Do not submit to this test without an attorney first reviewing the matter and then representing you in negotiating the agreement regarding the test.
