Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
career choices
I have a misdemeanor: attempted theft to a disabled adult. I would like to change careers and get a socialology degree. Would my background keep me from getting a job in this field? (expungement is not an option)

Re: career choices
This is really an employment law, not a criminal law question. The best answer is that it depends on what you want to do with your sociology degree. Did you want to do drug and alcohol dependency work? I know that there are several convicted felons working in that area. Did you want to teach at the University level? That would be an issue that could vary from school to school.
I would suggest you make an appointment with your academic advisor. Lay out the facts and ask the advisor whether or not this felony conviction would preclude employment in the field.
