Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
I am being charged with 2 counts of 5th Degree Felony Forgery, and 1 count of 5th degree theft. the situation is I was homeless for 2 months in the winter and I found a book of checks in a storage room and picked them up and saved them. I then used them to buy things from people and then sold those objects to pay for a place to live for a few nights at a time. The 2 checks I wrote were for $470, and $335. I am under the impression that as long as the checks were under $500 they should not be a felony. I am now schedualed to go in front of Judge Laurie Pittman in about 2 weeks in portage county ohio. What can I expect to happen as far as sentenceing and will these charges be lowere? Also how are these felonies?
