Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

I know someone who shoplifted back in 2001 and he has had a warrent since then,he now wants to take care of it,they classified the crime as criminal theft,I was wondering if since its been so long does stores usually keep video survelance that long?and what kind of punishment could possibly happen?do they keep the tapes when people shop lift/how long? thank you!

Don't know if the tapes were kept or not. It is possible that after all this time they will not have enough evidence to win a trial. The degree of the charge depends on the amount. I believe that back in 2001 anything under $300.00 would be a nmisdemeanor (first degree). If the person doesn't have a bad criminal record, then there is a good chance of probation.
