Expungement of a misdeamenor
I was arrested for the misdeamenor of petty theft in January 2000. I was 18 years old at the time of my arrest. What is the process I should take in order to expunge this from my record? How long will I have to wait before I can start to take action? What is the cost?

Re: Expungement of a misdeamenor
First of all, the misdemeanor must be an only offense. If you have another jailable offense such as DUI or Driving under a suspended license, one can not get the charge expunged. Further it mst be one year since the time you have been off probation. If you meet the above criteria, then go to the Court where you received the conviction and file the appropriate forms aliong with the filing fee. It should take approximately 4 to 6 weeks to complete the process.
