Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

failure to license

My roommate took my dog on a walk while I was out of town. The dog ended up getting lost, my next door neightbor(who has a problem with my roommate) had the dog picked up by animal control. I was cited a misdemeanor charge 955.01 for not licensing the dog. I found this dog 6 months ago on the side of the road and kept him. The day after I got him I got all his shots and neutured and signed him up for a puppy plan, I received tags and no one mentioned anything about licensing a dog. Is there any defense to my case. I've spent enough money on this dog already, paying 150.00 seems rediculous. He's licensed now!

Re: failure to license

PLead not guilty at arraignment and sell your story to the prosecutor, and if he doesn't care, to the judge. You're technically guilty but should be treated well.
