Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
Filing a false police report
My son is to be charge with filing a false police report. I was told this is a misdemeanor. I've read that it is a first degree misdemeanor. Are there different degrees for this offense? Should we obtain a lawyer? He has admitted to this crime. He's never been in trouble with the police and has had one traffic violation-speeding. He's 19 years old.

Yes you need a lawyer because if this is his first offense he can be entered into a program that will eventually dismiss the entire case despite the fact that he is guilty. He should not get an offense there if you can help it.
