what dose a memorandum contra field mean?

A memo contra is the response to a filed motion. For example, if a party files a Motion for Summary Judgment, the response (technically) is called a Memorandum in Opposition to a Motion for Summary Judgment. Typically, the order is: 1. Motion, 2. Memorandum in Opposition, 3. Reply.
