what is a general time waiver
why would you sign such a
document?
my son's lawyer told me that he
signed a general time waiver. is
this an advantage to a defendant?
or a convenience to the court?
he is being charged in a felony
theft charge.

Under certain circumstances it is necessary to waive the right to a speedy trial (time waiver). Often , this is done for the benefit of the defendant to allow time for assessments for programs, motions, etc. These are for the benefit of the defendant.
