Re: internet sting

It is impossible to respond to such a complex question based on the short statement of facts in your question. Entrapment is a viable legal defense, but only in rare cases will it succeed. Your question speaks of a "straight forward internet sex sting case." There really is no such thing. Each case is highly dependent on the facts.

This charge is so serious that I would strongly recommend that you talk with an experienced criminal defense attorney before you make any decisions. If you already have any attorney, you need to have a frank discussion with him or her about the legal issues in your case, the chance for success at trial, the risk of prison if convicted, and the probable result if you plead guilty.

If, for any reason, you are not comfortable asking your attorney to respond regarding these issues then you should reconsider your choice of attorney. You must have faith that the person you hired is able to look out for your best interest -- and part of that is the ability to explain to you the options you have, the risk involved, and the probable outcomes.

No attorney can promise a result, but an experienced attorney can give you a solid prediction.

Good luck with your case.
