Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
Judge does not understand the word indigent
I was cited for DUS ... and am about to go to court for the 4th time.
1st - Plead indigent, Judge ordered me
to find counsel and re-appear.
2nd - Judge asked me a couple questions
did I have a job, etc. (I lost
my job because of the DUS, traveling
salesman) told me to sell my vehicle.
Explained that I didn't have a savings
account, I live w/ my parents, but they
do NOT have the funds to hire counsel,
I am eating food on CREDIT. My mom just
recently lost her vehicle, so I gave her
complete use of mine.
3rd - Finally appt. me a lawyer. Court
ordered me to sell my vehicle. Told him
I may gift it to my mother. Reset the
court date for a FOURTH time.
Today I received a letter from the court finding me INDIGENT, and court ordering either the proceeds from the sale of my vehicle, or if I don't sell it, to bring in the title. Its not like I'm living the high life, people on welfare eat better then I do. The car in question is only a 94 Ford Probe with a wrecked title that I purchased as a ''Deal''. I'm stuck with this ''King of Justice'' and do not know what to do. Thanks for any input.

Re: Judge does not understand the word indigent
Something is missing from your scenario. Is this your third or fourth DUS. Normally, the Court will not force anyone to sell a vehicle. I understand that you are indigent, but there is something missing from this situation.
