Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
Get legal aid or not?
My friend stole a guitar from someone in '98 and pawned it, he also wrote on of his friends checks for pizza. He thought the case was closed now because he was on diversion for a while and then moved out of state. We now know that he has a warrant, and the bond is $2500.00. An attorney in Dayton offered to take the case and all for only $1000. Is this a good deal or should he try for the public defender. He's afraid that if he consults with the public defender, they might take him off to jail before he has a chance.

Re: Get legal aid or not?
Sounds like a fair deal to me. The public defender will in all likelihood tell you to turn yourself in while the retained attorney may call and arrange to turn yourself in.
Good Luck
