Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

Legal Search?Entrapment?

A x friend had me go 2 the dmv 2 get a id in his name with my picture. He got mad at me and called the police said i stole his identity. When the police came 2 my house. They broke my door said it was unlocked. Arrested me. Wouldnt tell me why i was arrested. Then searched my house took random stuff. 1 thing i got off the street was stolen. No search warrant and no permission. Then offered to make charges disappear if i became a informant for them. Illegal Search and Siezure? Entrapment? They havent officially charged me with the stolen property yet. But they will. I also think that my friend told the police that i had stolen property there because that was like the first thing they took. 2 me it almost seemed like they used the arrest warrant to search my house as a ''security sweep''

Re: Legal Search?Entrapment?

You have some possible suppression issues in your case. I would need more details, but a couple iof things come to mind. First, the arrest warrant gives them the right to arrest, but not necessariy do a search. They can search your person during an arrest, but they don't have a blanket authority to go ahead and search the entire home. Maybe that is why they haven't charged you.
