Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
How long is the usual sentence for petty theft? My friend was picked up for stealing shingles but he only thought he was helping his friend with home improvement. My question was too short last time so I hoped to elongate. He has been in jail for the last month with one court date and nothing was decided. They have not scheduled another one and there is no bail set for him which if I am correct should have been set at the January 14th hearing.

If it is misdemeanor theft, the maximum sentence is 6 months. If it is a felony theft, then the maximums are determined by the degree of the felony. He must have a record to be in jail and not out on bond. Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions. Edward DiCato
