Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

making an untrue statement

My friend was arrested on drug trafficking and involuntary manslaughter charges. after about a two hour interrogation. The ''nice cop'' told him that he was being charged with a third degree misdemeanor and if he tells them that he did it he will have to do some community service. My friend has a serious anxiety disorder and admitted to the charges so the police would leave him alone. He is innocent, but not according to the statement. What can he do?
