Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
menacing by stalking
This is my first offence and I have never been in trouble with the law my whole life. I am scared and I don't want to go to jail. My girlfriend at the time ended our relationship suddenly without a real explanation and all I wanted was answers from her. I tried different methods of getting my answers and some closure. I didn't know I was commiting any crimes. I was in a deep state of depression and I was just seeking closure. What can I do to help my case, do I need a attorney, what can I expect to happen to me. I do not want jail time, is there a way to stay out of jail. I'm scared and I don't know what to do. This started in Dec 09 and I am going in for a pretrial soon. I finally got my closure a month ago and was trying to move on when I was called in and charged. I never wanted to hurt her, I just wanted some answers. Being in the state of depression I was in, made it hard me to except it was over and I couldn't let it go. I know now what I did was wrong, but when I was doing it I didn't. I wasn't thinking clearly and now I'm in trouble. Can you help me

Re: menacing by stalking
Your question describes a typical situation. Unfortunately, you did not indicate a zip code or the county where the case is pending. These cases tend to be resolved based on the specific facts of the case, but the personality of the judge and prosecutor assigned to the case are also important. Without that information it is impossible to respond more fully.
I would say that an attoreny is often helpful in these circumstances. If you can afford to hire an attorney I always recommend it in cases where jail is a possible result.
If you would like to discuss matters futher, give me a call.
Sincerely,
Rich Cline
