An open container violation in a motor vehicle is a fourth degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a $250 fine. Its highly likely that if you plead guilty or no contest to the charge you will be fined and assessed court costs. Typically judges appreciate a defendant's ability to pay the fine quickly and in full.
