Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

outstanding warrants

I was involved in a minor car accident 4.5 years ago in Ohio. I failed a breathalyzer (by .005) and was charged with DUI. I also was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license (my indiana license was suspended due to an unpaid ticket). I never went to court. I now have outstanding warrants in Ohio. How do I remedy this? On top of this, I am scheduled to go out of the country in 2.5 months for work and am scared I will be denied a passport due to these warrants.

Re: outstanding warrants

If you call the municipal court that handles the cases for the City that brought the original charges you should be able to find out the status of any outstanding warrants or cases. I strongly suggest that you talk directly to an attorny first. It is possible that the matter can be cleared up before you have to leave the country. I can't say that the outstanding warrants will keep you from getting a passport but I suspect you will have a problem. I have been handling matters similar to this for the past 33 years. (from both sides-prosecutor and pub. defender as well as private practice.) I will be happy to talk to you on the telephone if you want to call- or email me with your contact information and I will try to call you. No charge or obligation for the call. In any event-You are going to need an attorney to get this squared away. Good Luck! DHD

Re: outstanding warrants

This can be done somewhat quickly as long as you hire a lawyer to start interceding for you. This will definitely cause some issues with your passport.
