Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
Paid Lawyer not representing you
I know someone who had a paid lawyer and could no longer afford this lawyer the judge told him that he could not get another lawyer because he had been paying him up until this time. He tried to tell his lawyer 2-3 months before his hearing that he could no longer afford him. The lawyer is not upset that he has to continue to represent him and will not answer any questions about his case. he had him agree to a plea of (2) years that he signed, but after he signed the judge gave a new court date for sentencing to determine how much time he will get. What can someone do if the lawyer does not have the clients best interest at heart and will not let them know anything that is going on with his case (what he is actually facing, what the plea was for. Does he also have to keep that lawyer? What about a fair trial and representation?
Please respond so if there is anything that can be done we could get started.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Paid Lawyer not representing you
The Judge is not going to let your lawyer off of the case unless there is another attorney ready to take over the case. That means you are going to need some money any way you look at it. The best thing to do is keep your attorney working for you by making arrangements for him or her to get paid! If your attorney is doiong a bad job or not properly representing you then you have a right to fire him. If he is doing a good job but you have not given him the money that is needed then it is understandable that he is frustrated with the case. I think you need to talk directly to another attorney for a second opinion. Call if you want and I will be happy to talk to you further. Best Advice? Find a family member or someone to loan you the money that your attorney needs.!
