Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

Possession of Marijuana

My boyfriend was driving without a license and was caught with .01 grams of marijuana in the car. The officer said that they were going to search the house. They found 2.7 grams inside the house. He told the officers where it was located and that i had no knowledge he even had it or had smoked it. The officers had him sign a statement saying he was guilty and i had nothing to do with it. I have had this problem with him before and the court knows that. Then I recieved a paper in the mail that i was being charged with possession of marijuana. He went to court the same day. He pled guilty and said again that i had nothing to do with it.I don't know much about the law but i am not allowed to be appointed a public defender on a minor misdemeanor, however i feel i am innocent and cannot afford a lawyer. Can anyone help at all?

Re: Possession of Marijuana

I can't tell where in Ohio this occurred, but if it is near a law school you might see if they have a clinic program. Third year law students work under the supervision of a licensed attorney and assist people like you who cannot afford an attorney. Akron University, Toledo University, and Case Western Reserve Universities all have law schools. If you are near one of them, I would give the school a call.
