Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
Possession of Stolen Property
Two of my friends got into trouble recently for having 30 road signs (a variety) hanging in an open garage. They have no idea what kind of trouble they are getting into and don't know the maximum and/or minimum penalties for such an offense. If at all possible could I get a specific case example or the maximum/minimum penalty for such an offense? They didn't steal the signs, but acquired them by buying them from various people. If that little bit of information helps any. Thank you.

Re: Possession of Stolen Property
Each offense is punishable up to six months in jail...so it's extremely serious. That is a good defense if they can show that they did not know that the signs were stolen and that they bought them from someone legitimately.
