Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

becoming a probation officer.

I am currently working on getting my bachelors of science in criminal justice administration and I was wondering if having a felony that was sealed back in 2002 would affect me in working in law enforcement? I was never in trouble before so, I was put on probation for 1 year which started in 2001 ended in 2002 and I repaid the money and did community service and after that 1 year my record was sealed. I was stupid and younger at the time and would never think of doing such wrong again like that because it is not who I am. I was not raised that way but anyway if you could help me out by answering my question I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Jaimie

Re: becoming a probation officer.

There is no definite answer to your question. Clearly, it would be easier to find work in this field if you did not have any prior convictions. However, I know of police officers who have felony convictions (sealed) and still were accepted on the force. The best advice I can give you is that you must be completely honest in the application process.

Good luck.
