Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
shoplifting
my sister who is 16 got caught shoping at at dept. store. they got the items back witch valued $40.00 they did not call the police. But had my mother sign a paper that she would pay the store $75.00-$200.00. is this legal?

Yes it is. That doesn't mean it won't become a criminal charge either. Stores rely on a civil law which allows them to recoup the cost of recovery in a civil matter if not voluntarily paid. This is separate from a criminal charge. Visit www.kliszlaw.com to discuss in detail. Tim Klisz
