Re: Statute of limitations
Generally, felony offenses must be indicted within six years of the date of the offense. If the defendant is outside the State of Ohio, a fugitive from justice, or conceals his or her whereabouts then the statute of limitations is tolled. Recently the Ohio General Assembly increased the statute of limitations to 20 years for most violent felonies, but that should not apply to a theft offense.
Felony theft is a serious offense. If you cannot afford to hire your own attorney, ask the Court to appoint one for you. This is not the type of case that you should attempt to handle on your own.
