Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
Threat to Minor Child's Life
Situation: Brother (33yrs) has broken off contact from everyone in family about 8 yrs back. Was very close to family. I try to contact him here and there to see if he is ready/willing to establish dialog. Such attempt was made via email a few days back. (Prior attempt was in Feb. 99). We live in different states.
Brother's response by email indicated that if I contacted him again, one of my children would be hurt. (Particular child he mentioned by name is 6 yrs.)
Emotionally, I am very bothered and feel that my child's life has been threatened.
Legally, is there any crime?
Thanks very much. I would not hesitate to retain an attorney if this distressing situation calls for it.

Re: Threat to Minor Child's Life
This sounds like menacing or a form of telephone harasment. However, it is totally up to a prosecutor to take on the charge and prosecute the case.
It seems as though your brother has sent a clear message that he does not want to be involved in family.
Good luck.
