Can you get in trouble for theft if the person let you borrow the things?

In Ohio if you borrowed the items but did not return them then that is a form of theft. But if it is simply a matter of borrowing with permission and then someoone said you stole the property instead, then if you can show good evidence that the transfer of the property to you was consensual, then that would be a solid defense.
